A group of Israeli Arabs volunteered to perform national service, the most popular alternative to military service, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. The move by the group, which included 30 women and one man, was believed to be the first in the nation’s history. The volunteers were placed with educational, health and welfare organizations in their communities.
