More than 800 Jewish families have evacuated this autonomous district since the beginning of the election campaign. Apparently convinced that the overwhelming victory for the pro-Nazis would result in repressive measures similar to those of Germany and Danzig, the Jews have fled to other parts of Lithuania. Even as the voting was under way, hundreds of Jews with their household goods piled hastily into trucks and wagons were leaving the district.
