Some 75,000 people turned out today to watch the Israeli Olympic Soccer team play an American all-star squad in an "America Salutes Israel" celebration of the Jewish State’s eighth anniversary at Yankee Stadium. The celebration, which also included an exhibition basketball game featuring the Harlem Globetrotters and addresses by Israel Ambassador Abba Eban, New York Gov. Averell Harriman, Mayor Robert Wagner and Senators and Congressmen, was sponsored by a committee established by the Farband-Labor Zionist Order and the U.S. Committee for Sports in Israel.
The Congressional dignitaries were headed by Sens. John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts and Styles Bridges of New Hampshire and included 16 Congressmen. Also participating in the festivities were Miss America of 1956, Sharon Kay Richie, and Miss Israel 1956, Ada Frenkel, N. Y. municipal bands and delegations of Jews in the New York Police and Fire Departments and of the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S. and veterans of the Palestine Legion of World War I.
