67,914 Jews Entered Canada During Past Twenty-five Years, 41,297 Left for U.S.

A total of 67,914 Jewish immigrants have entered Canada during the last 25 years, according to figures compiled by the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada, and made public here today. Of these arrivals, 50,695 came via ocean ports and 15,225 crossed the border from the United States.

The 67,914 new Canadians included 986 German-Jewish internees who were released in 1942-43 end about 1,100 Jewish refugees who were admitted for the duration of the war, During the same quarter-century 41,297 Jews left Canada to make their homes in the United States.

Canada is faced with the necessity of doubling her population within the next 25 years, Major leslie Mutch, Liberal member for Winnipeg South, declared in an appeal to parliament that the Dominion embark on a program of selective immigration at an early date. Major Mutch expressed the conviction that Canada could not hold half a continent with only ten million people. He urged that the immigration program be started even before the complete demobilization of the armed forces. He also joined other members who had protested against racial discrimination in Canada.
