Three thousand immigrants arrived in Israel today aboard three vessels. The new arrivals include 2,564 Bulgarian Jews, among whom are several prominent journalists.

Among the Bulgarian immigrants are also Chief Rabbi Daniel Shumuel Zion, who has already been named Chief Rabbi of Jaffa, and Joseph Baruch, chairman of the Sofia Jewish community and of the Bulgarian Jewish Communities Council.

(Reuters reported today from Belgrade that more than 4,000 Jewish emigrants, over half of them woman, left Yugoslavia this week by ship for Israel. Two hundred babies were among the emigrants, the last group of whom were sailing today aboard the specially-chartered 6,665-ton Yugoslav liner Radnik. The emigrants were among the 11,000 survivors of Yugoslavia’s pre-war Jewish population of 80,000, most of whom perished at the hands of the Nazis. They were selected by the Israeli Government from 5,000 applicants, under an agreement with Yugoslavia, the report stated).
