More than 2000 people filled the main hall of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Expo Theater here yesterday to participate in the 32nd anniversary of Israel’s independence celebration. David Azrieli, president of the Canadian Zionist Federation’s Eastern Region greeted the audience and spoke about the “32 eventful years of Israel’s existence.”
The Consul General of Israel, Zvi Caspl, also addressed the gathering. He conveyed the greetings of the people and government of Israel and stressed the indivisibility of Jerusalem, “the eternal capital of Israel.”
Mayor Jean Drapeau of Montreal, speaking in French and English, congratulated Israel on its 32nd anniversary and declared that “Montreal’s population supports the State of Israel whose achievements are an example for all of us.”
Yesterday, hundreds of prominent Montrealers, diplomatic and civic officials, visited the Israeli Consulate to offer their congratulations on Independence Day.
