Fourteen-year-old Mitchell Leibowitz of 2217 Mermaid Avenue, Coney Island, was acclaimed throughout the neighborhood Saturday for saving the lives of thirty persons.

He woke early Friday morning, smelled coal gas but thought nothing of it. He left the house and started for high school, but when he had gone several blocks it occurred to him there may be something wrong back home.

Running home, Mitchell found his father, mother and sister unconscious. The lad telephoned police, who dispatched two emergency trucks and three ambulance surgeons from Coney Island Hospital. Twenty-seven more in the house were affected, but all were fixed up O. K.
