President Kennedy and Vice President Johnson Joined in paying tribute to Morris A. Shenker, distinguished St. Louis communal leader and chairman of its campaign for Israel Bonds. Mr. Shenker received the Israel Commendation Award at a dinner in his honor which was attended by 1,300 persons. A record sale of $1,220,500 in Israel Bonds was reported at the dinner including substantial purchases by labor unions and banks in the area.
In his message, President Kennedy praised Shenker for “the community leadership he has displayed, his personal dedication to charitable and humanitarian causes, and his interest in Israel. I am glad, ” the President added, “that there is to be public recognition of his contributions of time, talent and resources to the public good. “
