JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Navy fired on two boats traveling from Sinai to the Gaza Strip that the Israel Defense Forces said were smuggling arms.
In the incident early Wednesday morning, secondary explosions were heard after the boats were hit by Israeli fire, indicating that they carried weaponry, the IDF said in a statement.
Gunmen on the Gaza coast also fired on the Israeli vessels.
The Palestinian Maan news agency reported that the Palestinian vessels were fishing boats and that four fishermen were injured in the attack.
