JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Israeli army uncovered a tunnel running from the Gaza Strip into Israel that contained barrels of explosives.
Israeli forces detonated the tunnel, the second to be discovered since last week. It is an extension of one that was uncovered originally last November, shortly before an eight-day Israeli military operation in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces said.
The discovery came days after the IDF said it had uncovered a 1.5-mile-long tunnel that ran from near Khan Younis in southern Gaza to Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha, with one exit located near a kindergarten.
IDF officials believe there are many more such undiscovered tunnels.
