(JTA) — Two top education officials in a Pennsylvania school district resigned after revelations that they disparaged blacks, Jews and others in text message exchanges.
The Coatesville Area School District board was set Tuesday to accept the resignations of Superintendent Richard Como and high school athletic director Jim Donato, according to local media in the region about 40 miles west of Philadelphia.
Some parents, however, are calling on the board to fire the two for a series of text messages uncovered during an investigation of the school district by the local district attorney.
The texts repeatedly use the N word to describe students and refer disparagingly to a romantic relationship between a black man and a “jew red haired esl teach.” “ESL” refers to English as a Second Language.
It is not clear what the district attorney is investigating. Como and Donato in their exchanges appear to allege kickbacks by fundraisers for athletic clubs.
