To the Editor:
I was appalled by JTA’s article about alleged anti-Semitism at Occupy Wall Street demonstrations in New York. In reference to one of the tiny number of Zionist conspiracy nuts and anti-Semites who have shown up at the protests, JTA writes that "… though the man is one of the few overtly anti-Jewish protesters at the site in New York, he is a sign of an undercurrent of anti-Semitism that runs through some of those protesting at the Occupy Wall Street gatherings across the United States."
An undercurrent that runs through some protesters? What undercurrent?
Multiple news reports from respected sources have duly noted that a few Jew-hating nuts have showed up at these rallies. This is an undercurrent?
And who does JTA cite as one of its sources? Rush Limbaugh! This is the same same Rush Limbaugh who last week characterized the mass-murdering Lord’s Resistance Army in Africa as noble Christians.
The real story here is how a band of far-right Republicans called the Israel Emergency Committee has cynically seized upon a handful of disorganized nuts to condemn an entire movement. But apparently that story doesn’t interest JTA.
