The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan released what is believed to be the complete list of Bernard Madoff’s clients.
The 162-page list of 13,500-plus names, released Wednesday, is staggering — and there are names we had not yet heard strewn about it (no dollar figures). Check it out here
Madoff ripped off not only his own family members, but the lawyer who is defending him, Ira Sorkin, and Jewish pitching legend Sandy Koufax.
The New York Post did some initial number-crunching:
The exhaustive, 162-page tally shows Madoff targeted prominent Jewish families in New York and Palm Beach. But his swath of tears stretched coast to coast, and also included unions, family trusts and estates….
In all, 13,567 customers appear, with many individuals or entities holding multiple accounts in Madoff’s collapsed Ponzi fund.
New York City addresses show up 2,167 times in the tally, which was compiled by a firm hired by Irving Picard, the lawyer appointed trustee in the liquidation of Madoff’s securities firm.
Florida ZIP codes make a staggering 2,776 appearances, with the city of Palm Beach appearing 569 times.
