The Republican Jewish Coalition has pinned much of its pitch to swing Jewish voters on President Obama’s Israel record.
Still, I’ve seen about a third of its materials focus on economics.
Here’s an ad that’s strictly about the economy, starring Bernie Marcus, the Home Depot founder.
The ad features little explicitly Jewish, but the RJC in its press release notes:
Bernie Marcus is one of the country’s great success stories, the son of immigrants who became a major leader and philanthropist in the Jewish community, and a supporter of programs and institutions, from medical services and research to the Georgia Aquarium, that enhance the lives of children and families across the United States.
One claim Marcus makes is that in the present climate he doubts whether Home Depot, had it started now, could get to more than six stores.
I get the larger point. But the guys who run the hardware store down the street (120 years, same family) don’t exactly strike me as Obama voters — but that’s the kind of claim that could turn them.
But then, they’re not the demographic likely to stumble onto RJC web ads.
UPDATE: There’s a longer version that adds Marcus’ direct appeal to Jewish voters.
