The Democratic National Convention gave Carol Berman of West Palm Beach, Fla., the podium to offer a personal take on Medicare, Obamacare and Social Security:
I’m so proud to be at the Democratic National Convention from Florida. I’m one of the seniors who retired to this piece of heaven on earth and I’m as happy as a clam. But It’s not just the sunshine; it’s Obamacare. I’m getting preventive care for free and my prescription drugs for less.
But the Romney-Ryan plan has me terrified, not just for me but for my three married daughters who are in their fifties.

Berman blasted Republican plans to repeal the health reform law and to change Medicare into what she called "voucher-care." She expressed the fear that this could cost seniors like her significant sums of money. ("Thousands of dollars might be pocket change to Mitt Romneys, but it’s a lot of money in my family. It’s birthday presents for my grandkids and an airline flight to visit them.")
She concluded:
I’m proud to be born the same year that Social Security was. It was the most important law of my lifetime. And Medicare was pretty great too. But now we have Obamacare, which preserves the promise of Medicare an a secure retirned. so like i tell my daighter’s, ;et’s vote like our lies depend on it, because they do."
She previously testified before the Democratic National Committee’s Draft Platform Committee, recounting the financial hardships and awful choices she confronted as a result of her husband’s illness.
The Palm Beach Post told her story in advance of her convention speech.
She is apparently involved with a group called the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
