Gingrich courting the Jews

Newt Gingrich is soaring in the polls, opening up commanding leads over Mitt Romney in three of four early voting states. And as his electoral prospects improve, the former House speaker is increasingly courting the Jewish vote.

Earlier today, Gingrich joined the Republican field (minus Ron Paul) at the Republican Jewish Coalition candidate’s forum. On Friday, he is slated to host a call to discuss U.S.-Israel relations with Jewish supporters. And we’ve just learned that last week, Gingrich gathered a group of prominent Jewish leaders at a Manhattan hotel to talk about Israel and the economy.

According to a source who was present, the meeting at the Grand Hyatt in midtown lasted over an hour and included about a dozen representatives from the Conference of Presidents, the World Jewish Congress, the American Jewish Committee, and the Zionist Organization of America, among others. Gingrich was said to have spoken out forcefully against the peace process and promised a hard line against Iran.
