We just posted a brief on a proposal in Congress to link funding for the United Nations to reform.
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) argues, essentially, that the U.N.’s good works should not count against its bad works — she wants a formulation where the United States can fund what it likes. Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) says you can’t extract the good works without remaining engaged.
One such "good work" comes up tomorrow: The establishment, six years ago, at the behest of Kofi Annan, then the secretary general, of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is marking the day with a talk by two of its volunteers — and survivors — Martin Weiss and Fanny Aizenberg. Also speaking is USHMM director Sara Bloomfield.
