Credit Caroline Kennedy, aspiring senator from New York, with a very elegant pivot: Gary Ackerman had mocked her ambitions, saying that if name recognition was qualification enough to be a U.S. senator, Jennifer Lopez would be a contender.
Quoth Caroline, in an interview with NY1, New York’s cable news channel: “I admire the journey J. Lo has traveled. I’ve been to a school in the Bronx near the house she grew up in and so I actually have a lot of admiration for her and she looks pretty good but in terms of public policy and as we spend our adults lives and I don’t think there is really much we have in common.”
Nicely done! Makes Ackerman seem a bit of a cad (what kind of New Yorker disses a decent rags to riches tale?) and at the same time makes it clear that Kennedy has earned her chops in the public policy sphere (in her case as a constitutional scholar and an education rights activist.)
