U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), a major friend of the pro-Israel community who represents the substantial Jewish community on Chicago’s North Shore, handily defeated a second challenge from Dan Seals.
It’s significant because it’s a district (affluent, Jewish, college educated) that demographically should trend Democratic.
Kirk is on the powerful foreign affairs appropriations subcommittee. Both candidates had strong pro-Israel backing. (In the primaries, Seals bested Jay Footlik, a former Jewish liaison in the Clinton White House who garnered a cornucopia of endorsements by national machers.)
