(JTA) — A Congolese soccer player and his friend were arrested in connection with the death of a young woman who was found at the men’s hotel in the Israeli coastal city of Netanya.

The Maccabi Netanya player and his friend were arrested Wednesday, but Netanya police did not say whether they are murder suspects. Neither man was named, but news reports said both were in their 30s and from Congo.

The young woman was found dead and nearly naked at the Carmel Hotel, the news site Ynet reported Thursday. She was found half dangling from the railing of the hotel room’s balcony and showed contusions in the stomach area.

The player’s friend told police the player had met the young woman on Tuesday. She was not a guest of the hotel.

A police spokesperson told the NRG news site that police were waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine how she died.
