JERUSALEM (JTA) — Police are calling an incident in which a group of Jewish teenagers attacked at least three Palestinian teens in downtown Jerusalem a "lynch."
One of the victims remained in the hospital Monday after being taken off a respirator.
Four teenage suspects were arrested Monday after four others were brought in Sunday, in addition to a 19-year-old male who was arrested Saturday afternoon. Two of the suspects are female, according to The Jerusalem Post.
Hundreds of people watched the Aug. 16 assault but did not intervene, a police representative said, according to Haaretz. Jerusalem police were checking surveillance videos from cameras placed in the area, according to The Jerusalem Post. Some two dozen Jewish teens were involved in the attack, egged on by a female Jewish teen, police said.
"The hate crimes committed over the weekend against Arabs in Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem are intolerable, outrageous and must be firmly dealt with," Vice Prime Minister and Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Sunday in a statement.
