JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hezbollah released a video that the Iranian-backed terrorist group says shows the abduction of Israeli soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev.
The video was shown last Friday on a satellite television station based in Lebanon, where Hezbollah also is based.
Goldwasser and Regev were taken captive in a Hezbollah attack thought to have killed them and which sparked the 34-day Second Lebanon War between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006. Their bodies were repatriated to Israel in July 2008 in return for the release of five jailed Lebanese prisoners and the remains of 199 Lebanese and Palestinian terrorists.
The video shows the Hezbollah terror cell crossing the border into Israel and opening fire on an Israeli military vehicle. The video stops after the vehicle is hit and the terrorists open the door to the vehicle. Regev and Goldwasser are never seen in the video.
After the bodies were repatriated to Israel, it was determined that they died in the ambush or shortly afterward.
