JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli airstrike destroyed a tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip that the country’s military said was used for terrorist purposes.
Wednesday’s strike by the Air Force was in retaliation for a Kassam rocket fired from Gaza on northern Israel the previous evening, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement. No injuries or damage were reported from the rocket.
In a separate incident Tuesday, shots were fired at Israeli soldiers performing what the IDF said was "routine operational activities" near the security fence in central Gaza. No injuries were reported, but two armored vehicles sustained light damage.
The IDF said that Israeli aircraft and armored forces opened fire at "suspicious targets" in response.
