JERUSALEM (JTA) — Palestinian protesters stormed a conference organized by Israeli and Palestinian peace activists, forcing an end to the forum.
The demonstrators protested last week’s conference organized by the Israeli Palestinian Confederation in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Jala because it would "normalize" relations between Israel and the Palestinians. The day before in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, protesters prevented the conference from taking place and raided the conference room.
According to the confederation’s website, "The Israeli-Palestinian Confederation Committee is a group of volunteers who have joined together to educate the public through symposiums, debates, dialogue and cultural exchanges about a possible mechanism for peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians."
The committee says that it intends to improve relations between Israelis and Palestinians through education, engagement and dialogue.
