NEW YORK (JTA) — Sheldon and Miriam Adelson have given their second $25 million donation to Yad Vashem, making it the largest-ever combined contribution to the facility from a private donor.

The donation by the Adelsons, who are well known for their philanthropy, will go to support educational seminars and teacher training programs at Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies. The gift was announced at the 30th anniversary dinner of the American Society for Yad Vashem held recently in New York.

The Adelsons had donated the original $25 million in 2006.

“We have seen the incredible impact of Yad Vashem seminars on educators of all backgrounds over the past five years," Sheldon Adelson said. "We look to these educators to bring the lessons of the Shoah to their students.

He added, "We encourage others to join us in supporting Yad Vashem in its crucial work.”
