NEW YORK (JTA) — A U.S. Jewish environmental group is organizing a 10-week, cross-country bicycle tour to raise awareness about sustainability.
Organized by Hazon, the ride, called Cross USA, is scheduled to take 72 days to get from Seattle to Washington, D.C. The ride will be kosher and will stop for the Sabbath.
“Along the way, Cross USA Riders will be learning about the relationship between Jewish tradition, the natural world and contemporary food issues," said Wendy Levine, Cross USA’s ride director. "By the end of the summer, riders will have made a lasting impact on the lives of others along the route and will have gained a broader awareness about the unique relationship we all play in the world around us."
This is Hazon’s first cross-country ride since the organization launched in 2000.
