NEW YORK (JTA) — ONE, an advocacy organization that fights poverty in Africa, has released a new guide for Sukkot.

The three-page guide, titled “Sukkot 2011 and the Famine in the Horn of Africa,” was published Oct. 4 on the organization’s website. It provides background information on the holiday, discussion questions, and ideas for youth and synagogue programs. It also relates the values of Sukkot to the ongoing famine in Africa.

“Currently the Horn of Africa is experiencing its worst drought in 60 years," the guide reads. "More than 13 million people are severely lacking access to food. The holiday of Sukkot provides an opportunity to celebrate our past, but recognizes that while we are free, others are still wandering the desert.”

U2 front man Bono co-founded ONE in 2002.
