JERUSALEM (JTA) — Eight military jet engines were stolen from an airbase near Tel Aviv.
The theft was discovered last week. The engines were old or retired and likely were stolen for their scrap value, Military.com reported.
The website quoted U.S. security and aviation experts as saying that the engines "still hold secrets that foreign rivals such as Iran or China would love to get their hands on."
Israel’s military launched an investigation even though it did not confirm the theft, the French news agency AFP reported last week.
It is not known exactly when the engines were stolen. Each weighs more than 3,700 pounds and needed a truck to cart them away.
