SAN FRANCISCO (JTA) — Jewish institutions must remain vigilant, an FBI representative told Jewish leaders in a security briefing following last week’s bomb threat.
“Terrorists will continue and diversify their attacks,” said the representative from the FBI’s Washington field office during a conference call Tuesday.
U.S. Jewish institutions are receiving a series of security briefings following the bomb threat.
Two hundred Jewish leaders and law enforcement officials took part in the call on security measures organized by the Anti-Defamation League. Experts from the ADL and FBI offered tips on how to handle suspicious packages and other related issues.
The FBI announced during the call that no synagogues exist at the addresses on the two packages sent from Yemen that were intercepted last Friday. Jewish institutions were urged to be particularly vigilant regarding all incoming mail.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will convene a teleconference at 3 p.m. Eastern time to brief Jewish leaders and security staffers on security measures they should take.
Homeland Security will continue to call key Jewish leaders throughout the week in an initiative organized by the Secure Community Network, a joint communal security program of the Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
