JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak visited the home of a soldier killed in Gaza.
Barak on Monday visited the home of Maj. Eliraz Peretz, who was killed last Friday in a firefight on the Gaza border.
Family members asked Barak to reconsider demolition orders for the dead soldier’s home, which is built in the West Bank outpost of Givat Hayovel, near Eli. The family, however, said they would not make demands, since Peretz would not have.
Peretz is the father of four young children. His brother was killed 12 years ago in Lebanon. Two other brothers also serve in the Israeli army’s Golani Brigade.
Givat Hayovel also is home to the family of Maj. Ro’i Klein, who was killed in the Second Lebanon War, when he jumped on a live grenade to save his fellow soldiers.
