(JTA) — Israeli police arrested 21 left-wing activists in Jerusalem after a protest over the eviction of Palestinians from their homes turned violent.
According to media reports, protesters tried to enter a home partly occupied by Jews in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah when police stepped in to break up the demonstration.
When the protesters refused to leave, police used tear gas and force.
Six police officers were also lightly injured.
The protest comes after a court ruling earlier in the month that an Arab family living in the house in question could not live in an addition that it built to the structure. Three Palestinian families have been evicted from Sheikh Jarrah in recent months.
