WASHINGTON (JTA) — An Orthodox group is holding a series of seminars to educate its members about federal tax laws.
Agudath Israel sponsored a conference for close to 400 yeshiva administrators and accountants as part of an effort by the organization to "promote awareness of the importance of compliance with secular law and to educate the Orthodox community about legal requirements and procedures," according to a news release. The meeting focused on laws regarding charitable contributions, parsonage and employee benefits.
The idea for the series came from a July gathering sponsored by Agudath that stressed the importance of complying with secular law after the arrests of five New York and New Jersey rabbis on charges of money laundering.
