JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel made a mistake by not cooperating with the Goldstone investigation, Sweden’s foreign minister said.

Carl Bildt said Thursday that Sweden, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, supports the United Nations-ordered Goldstone report on Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

The report accuses Israel and Hamas of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity.

Bildt called Richard Goldstone, the former South African judge who headed the commission, a person with "high integrity" and called his panel’s report "independent and serious" during an interview on Swedish Radio, according to reports.

He told reporters the report should be deliberated in the United Nations Human Rights Council.
