WASHINGTON (JTA) — A Jewish youth group in Britain set a new world record for largest custard pie fight.
The event, which took place Friday in East Mersea, Essex, involved 253 members of the Jewish Lads and Girls Brigade who threw 648 pies in a matter of moments, the Essex Daily Gazette reported.
An adjudicator from Guinness World Records attended to affirm the record.
Steve Weller, the group’s activities coordinator, said the event was organized as a summer camp activity.
"Somebody challenged me to break a world record, and custard pies just came into my head," Weller said. "We did have 650 pies to start with, but I think two got eaten."
