JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s attorney general said his office will decide "without delay" whether to issue indictments in three corruption cases brought against Ehud Olmert.
The message sent Tuesday by Menachem Mazuz’s office to attorneys for the former prime minister came as the two sides continue to debate the reasons behind the canceling of hearings on the cases.
Olmert’s attorney had canceled the hearings claiming that Olmert could not get a fair hearing in front of Mazuz, and requesting an impartial arbiter to run the proceeding. Mazuz claimed that Olmert’s attorney had waived his client’s right to a hearing.
Hearings had been scheduled for this month in which Olmert’s attorneys could refute the charges against the former prime minister in the Talansky, the travel agency double billing and Investment Center affairs.
