NEW YORK (JTA) — The world’s biggest matzah ball was displayed, and eaten, in New York.
Hungry New Yorkers on the city’s Lower East Side noshed Thursday on the massive orb, which weighed 267 pounds and measured 29.2 inches in diameter, the New York Post reported.
"What’s better than this in New York City?" Noam Sokolow, who helped organize the event, was quoted as saying. "Big Apple, big matzah ball."
Sokolow put his creation on display amid much fanfare outside Noah’s Ark Original Deli, which he owns.
The iconic Jewish delicacy was made to raise awareness of an upcoming charity basketball game between the New York Knicks and the Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 18. Profits from the game will go to Migdal Ohr, an orphanage in northern Israel.
