JERUSALEM (JTA) — Bedouin and Arab residents of the southern Israeli town of Rahat held a counter-demonstration against a right-wing protest.
Several dozen right-wing activists led by Baruch Marzel, Itamar Ben-Gvir and National Union Party member of Knesset Michael Ben-Ari marched Sunday in the Bedouin town, protesting illegal Bedouin construction.
"In the eyes of the law, Rahat is no different than Migron," said Marzel in reference to a West Bank outpost slated for evacuation, Ha’aretz reported. "If [Supreme Court President] Dorit Beinisch goes out in her pajamas at night to issue demolition orders against a shack that is built, she must also address the issue of thousands of illegal structures built by Bedouin in the Negev."
One police officer was lightly injured when his helmet was hit by a rock.
Hundreds of counter-demonstrators, including residents of Rahat, Jewish supporters and Arab Knesset members, threw stones and shoes at the rightists, according to reports.
