JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli defense contractor will supply Israel’s Transportation Ministry with an anti-missile system to protect commercial aircraft.
Elbit Systems announced Thursday that it received a $76 million contract for the Sky Shield aviation defense system against shoulder-fired missiles. The system will be installed on El Al planes.
The project became a priority after a 2002 attempt to shoot down an Israeli passenger plane during takeoff.
