JERUSALEM (JTA) — Thousands of marchers took part in Jerusalem’s annual gay pride parade with a relatively small number of protesters.

About 4,000 people marched Thursday in the annual parade, which usually brings out a large number of fervently Orthodox protesters. The protest group was led by right-wing activist Baruch Marzel, according to reports.

More than 1,500 police officers were on hand to prevent violence along the route, from Liberty Bell Park to Independence Park via King David Street.
