JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian Authority police officer arrested for infiltrating the border has asked to remain in Israel after his release from prison.
The 24-year-old Gazan petitioned Israel’s Supreme Court to allow him to remain in Israel following his release, which is scheduled for next week.
The Palestinian says he fears Hamas will kill him if he re-enters Gaza because Hamas sees him as loyal to the Palestinian Authority. He says he turned himself in to Israel after infiltrating the border a year ago in order to seek the country’s protection.
His request to be released to the West Bank already has been denied, Ynet reported.
