A former Israeli finance minister was convicted of fraud and theft.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A former Israeli finance minister was convicted of fraud and theft.

Abraham Hirchson was found guilty of stealing $625,000 from the National Workers Organization while he worked as its chairman.

Hirchson denied any wrongdoing. Five accomplices already pleaded guilty to stealing similar sums between the years 1998 and 2005.

Hirchson could be fined and serve jail time.
