JERUSALEM (JTA) — Terrorist groups are trying to recruit Israeli citizens as agents using social networking sites such as Facebook, Israel’s Shin Bet has warned.
The groups are offering bribes in exchange for information, the Israeli security agency said in a warning released to the public Monday afternoon.
Meetings set up through the sites also could be a ruse for one of the groups to kidnap Israeli citizens, the warning said.
The terrorist groups also are searching sites often visited by Israelis, especially former soldiers in elite Israel Defense Forces units, in order to obtain information, according to the Shin Bet.
The Shin Bet warned Israeli citizens to keep personal information, such as addresses and phone numbers, off of their personal profile pages.
