JERUSALEM (JTA) — A senior member of the Palestinian Fatah faction was killed in southern Lebanon.
Kamal Medhat’s death by a roadside bomb Monday was an "assassination," a Fatah spokesman in the West Bank told Reuters.
Medhat, deputy head of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Lebanon, was killed along with four others, reportedly bodyguards, near the Mieh Mieh refugee camp near Sidon. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
"President Abbas condemns the terrorist crime that targeted Major General Kamal Medhat," read a statement from the office of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. "He dedicated his life to serve his people and his cause."
Another Fatah member was killed Saturday in the Mieh Mieh camp, allegedly during a family dispute.
