WASHINGTON (JTA) — Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will undergo precautionary chemotherapy following her February surgery for pancreatic cancer.
Ginsburg, the only Jewish woman to ever serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, said in a statement released by the court that she is "scheduled to undergo a precautionary, post-surgery course of chemotherapy at the National Institutes of Health" starting later this month. She said the treatments are not expected to affect her schedule at the court, and she anticipates only requiring routine examinations thereafter.
In the statement Ginsburg, 76, said that her Feb. 5 surgery at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York was "a complete, successful surgical removal of a pancreatic cancer." She did not miss any time on the court because of the surgery.
