WASHINGTON (JTA) — A former member of Kach, the outlawed anti-Arab party, will help supervise voting in a large Arab town.
Baruch Marzel, who was arrested multiple times over his long Kach career for anti-Arab violence and provocations, will represent the far-right National Union Party in ballot box supervision in Umm el-Fahm on Election Day, Feb. 10.
Arab legislators appealed to the Knesset Elections Committee to replace Marzel, noting that police recently denied him permission to lead a march through Umm el-Fahm because of the dangers it posed. Israel’s Supreme Court ordered the police to accommodate the march within no more than 45 days of the election.
