JERUSALEM (JTA) — The father of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit met with the Shas Party’s spiritual leader.
Noam Shalit, as well as grandfather Zvi Shalit, met Monday in Jerusalem with Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. The Shalit family requested the meeting, according to reports.
Yosef, who blessed the Shalit family at the beginning of the meeting, invited Gilad Shalit to visit him at his home when he is released.
Shas chairman Eli Yishai, who attended the meeting, said the current election period is "a window of opportunities" to secure the soldier’s release.
The Shalits plan to meet with many public figures during the election campaign in an effort to remind the public about their son’s plight.
