NEW YORK (JTA) — U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit a New York synagogue.

Ban is scheduled to participate in Saturday morning services at the Park East Synagogue in Manhattan on the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, according to a news release.

Park East’s rabbi, Arthur Schneier, is a Holocaust survivor and the founder of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation, which works for human rights and religious freedom around the world. Last year, Schneier hosted Pope Benedict XVI in the first visit by a pope to an American synagogue.

Ban is expected to deliver remarks.
