JERUSALEM (JTA) — The United Nations Security Council called for a permanent truce in Gaza.
The council on Wednesday also called for guarantees to prevent arms smuggling into Gaza and for the permanent reopening of all border crossings into the coastal strip.
Britain and France drafted the statement, which was approved by all 15 members of the Security Council, The Associated Press reported.
The council said it was concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and called for humanitarian aid to be delivered to civilians there without problems.
