JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s foreign minister will meet in Cairo with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak at his invitation.
Tzipi Livni and Mubarak will meet Thursday, her office announced. Mubarak’s invitation came during a phone conversation Monday between Livni and her Egyptian counterpart, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The meeting will take place in the Egyptian capital instead of the Sinai resort town of Sharm el-Sheik, which is where Mubarak usually meets with Israeli officials.
Livni and Mubarak are scheduled to discuss a new cease-fire between Hamas and Israel, and the increasing rocket attacks and reprisals between Israel and Hamas, as well as the Israel-Palestinian peace negotiations.
