JERUSALEM (JTA) — Iran’s chief prosecutor said he will seek the death penalty against three Iranians accused of spying for Israel.

The arrest of the alleged spies was reported Tuesday by Iranian media.

Mohammed Ali Jaffari, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, told the Iranian Fars News Agency that his forces uncovered sophisticated communications equipment from the alleged spies, who he said had trained in Israel.

Israeli officials have not commented on the announcement.

The Islamic Republic executed an Iranian businessman last week convicted of spying for Israel.
